AJ Rafael - When We Say (Juicebox)
Cover by Katrina Gadong & KR Quiñon
I apologize for putting this project on hold over the weekend, real-life and responsibilities barged in my door and, well, they were too good not to be welcomed with open arms. Anyway, as a peace offering, here’s my rendition of one of my favorites, recorded during that very Saturday it was due. Special thanks to my good friend KR for being the awesome musician that he is and to my twin sister for patiently recording all the magic.
This song spoke to me on several phases of my (love)life. Whether it’s starting to like someone who you know so well isn’t for you, falling for him when that ship has already sailed, or somewhere in between, When We Say can mean a lot of things to a handful of people. For me, let’s just say I have always looked up to how AJ sees relationships through this track, to just be thankful we get to have the chance to ever experience love:
Love and relationships are never like the movies no matter how much we want them to be. But when something beautiful ends, for whatever reason, it’s most important not to be disappointed that it’s over, but glad that it happened at all.
Until The One finally shows up at my doorstep, this song has a pretty good spot on my list.

My favorite holiday is just around the corner and instead of dreading another Singles Awareness Day celebration with my girlfriends, I’d rather wait for Valentine’s in my own hopeful romantic way. I begin the year with a project that not only centers on my most valued philosophy (Love, above all else) but also celebrate it in the best way I know how: with music.
Starting tomorrow, January 16th until the day of Valentine’s, I will be sharing a love song that best describes my day—the state of my heart in particular—and perhaps leave you with a brief explanation for that choice. A firm believer of serendipity, I will keep my eyes, ears, and heart open for the right rhythm this entire month and hopefully come up with a playlist that encapsulates the roller coaster of emotions I’ll be having in the coming days.
I hope you guys stick around during this exciting time! Thank you and happy listening, lovebirds!
